We haven’t done something like this in a long while. Too long! From track one to the very end Soul to Unite’s SD challenges you to step to the floor and dance till your feet hurt!
Many of the tracks on this weeks show are remixes or remakes of classic soul and disco jams. So let’s have a little history lesson shall we?
The show kicks off with a huge track from 2011 ‘Love Is You’ by DJ Meme. The original of this comes from 1977 when Carol Williams recorded the club hit with Salsoul Orchestra. A sample from ‘Love Is You’ was also used by Spiller in his hit ‘Groovejet’ which was high in the charts world wide.
Then we continue with a true classic – ‘Relight My Fire’ by Dan Hartman. We played an remix, the original was released in 1979.
We continue that legendary Studio 54 feel with ‘If You Could Read My Mind’. This version was recorded for the motion picture about Studio 54 and features Ultra Nate on vocals. Original of this track is something completely different. In 1970 Gordon Lightfoot released this song and you should all head out to Youtube to make sure you have a listen.
The amazingly uplifting Rockefeller ‘Do It 2 Nite’ is built around the Soultrain hit ‘Take Your Time’ by SOS Band. It was 1980 back then.
There are plenty of other songs looking back in this show. We got ‘The Boss’ which as originally performed by Diana Ross in 1979. We got two Michael Jacksons tracks – ‘Off The Wall’ was also released in 1979. ‘Blood On The Dance Floor’ on the other hand is from 1997 and we played an official remix from the single.
